Our lovely friend Melissa Sonico suggested we try the Willow Dress as a blouse so we did! And we've named it after her. The Melissa Blouse has shirring (shirring is a term for gathers, we make them with an elastic stitch) to the waist and dramatic puffed sleeves. Because of the sheer fabric this style can be dressed up or down and the cotton is easy to wash.
This fabric from Japan is 100% cotton and is one of those special materials which, when you find it, you have to pinch yourself. It’s super lightweight but also has a bit of stiffness that gives a lovely body to the material. We love it for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it gives a more formal option without the limitations of other sheer fabrics—silk (beautiful but fussy) or synthetic fabrics (generally not great environmentally). Also, it can be hand washed meaning no need for dry cleaning. Functional, beautiful and socially responsible - it ticks all three.
Fit notes: The Melissa Blouse fits on the small side, if you prefer a bit of roomier fit you can size up.
